TOLEDO, Ohio – Head Coach
Tod Kowalczyk announced the signing of Javan Simmons (Gahanna, Ohio) to a national letter of intent on Wednesday. Simmons will join the Toledo men's basketball program prior to the start of the 2022-23 academic year.
"We're really excited to have Javan become part of our Rocket family," Kowalczyk said. "He's a very physical, aggressive post player that can play numerous positions. I love his skill level as well as his mentality. He's extremely coachable, plays for a great high school coach and we think he has the chance to have a great career for us."
A 6-foot-7 forward, Simmons is entering his senior season at Gahanna Lincoln High School and helped the Lions reach the regional finals last year. A second-team all-conference and honorable-mention All-Central Ohio selection, Simmons averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 blocks per game while serving as team captain as a junior.
Kowalczyk and the Rockets (1-0) will open their home season against Detroit Mercy on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena.
