Oakland Head Coach Greg Kampe to Serve as Keynote Speaker for Rocket Roundball Social

Former Rocket assistant coach ranks ninth on active coaches win list with 731 victories
TOLEDO, Ohio — Oakland University head men's basketball coach Greg Kampe will serve as the keynote speaker for Toledo's annual Rocket Roundball Social on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 6-8 p.m. on the main floor in Savage Arena. University of Toledo President Dr. James Holloway is hosting the event, and all proceeds will go directly to the Toledo Men's Basketball Program.
Kampe is entering his 43rd season at the helm of the Golden Grizzlies and is the longest-tenured NCAA Division I men's college basketball coach in the nation. In addition's Kampe's 731 career victories rank ninth on the active coaches win list. Kampe began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Toledo, earning a Master of Arts degree in physical education, before serving as an assistant coach for Head Coach Bob Nichols from 1979-84.
"I'm really excited to have Greg Kampe be our featured speaker at the Rocket Roundball Social," Kowalczyk said. "I've known Coach Kampe for a long time. He's a tremendous coach, one of the biggest ambassadors of college basketball and truly a steward of the game. He's also an extremely entertaining storyteller, and I think our fans will really enjoy listening to his message on a great night for our program."
The Rocket Roundball Social, which is an event that has grown into a Toledo Basketball tradition, offers individuals the opportunity to meet President Holloway, Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk, his staff and players while enjoying food from some of Toledo's finest restaurants.
"Our Rocket Roundball Social has been a huge success for many years," Kowalczyk said. "It's played a very important role in providing us with the program enhancements we need to maintain the success we've enjoyed. We are extremely thankful for the generosity of the individuals in this community that attend this event."
A live auction will be held during the evening with "Roadtrip with the Rockets" for Toledo's games at Michigan State (Nov. 5) and Michigan (Dec. 30). There will also be several other items available for bid through a silent auction.
Corporate tables of 10 can be purchased, with a limited number of individual tickets also available.
