Rockets to hold open practice in Savage Arena on Saturday from 12-1:130 pm
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's basketball team will play the first of two exhibition games prior to its 2026-27 campaign when it visits the University of Findlay on Sunday, Oct. 18. The Rockets also will host Northern Illinois in Savage Arena on Sunday, Oct. 25 at noon.
The contest vs. the Oilers will tip off at 3 p.m. at the Croy Physical Education Center. Ticket prices for the exhibition are $11.00 for adults and $6.00 for students and can be purchased online at findlayoilers.com.
The Rockets are visiting Findlay for the seventh time in the last 10 years. Toledo has a 5-1 win-loss mark in those contests with wins in 2019 (75-68), 2021 (83-78), 2022 (100-88), 2023 (95-70), 2025 (123-103) and an 89-86 defeat in 2017.
"I've always been a big fan of playing at Findlay because it gives us an opportunity to play in a hostile environment that's loud and has great energy inside it," Kowalczyk said. "It's something where we can learn about ourselves and challenge our guys, especially the freshmen. This year it's even more important, because we'll be playing three road games in our first week of the season. Another bonus for our program is having a lot of season ticket holders in the area that can come out and see us play."
Senior Austin Parks is the team's top returning scorer and rebounder with 10.7 ppg and 5.6 rpg, respectively. Juniors Jaylan Ouwinga and Mynor Strong as well as sophomore Will James Jr. also return after being key members of the Rockets' rotation last season.
The Rockets have added veteran transfers Rich Barron (Jr.-R., F, 6-5, 225, Providence), Sean Jones (Sr.-R, G, 5-10, 185, Marquette) and Angel Montas Jr. (Sr.-R, G, 6-6, 225, UMass-Lowell) as well.
Toledo registered its ninth-straight winning season last year with a 19-15 record under Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk. The 2025-26 campaign saw Toledo make a run to the MAC Championship Game after earning a top-four seed in the tournament for a sixth-straight season. The Rockets defeated Bowling Green (77-76) in the quarterfinals and UMass (77-67) in the semifinals before falling in the championship game to Akron (79-76).
The Rockets have not experienced a losing season since Kowalczyk's first year in the 2010-11 season and have won five Mid-American Conference titles during his tenure.
Toledo opens its 2026-27 season on Monday, Nov. 2 when it travels to Jonesboro, Ark. to face Arkansas State in the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge. The Rockets will then visit Michigan State on Thursday, Nov. 5 and Marshall on Saturday, Nov. 7 before returning to Savage Arena to host Wright State in its home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
Season and single-game tickets for the men's basketball program are on sale now. For more information or to purchase season tickets, visit the Rocket Athletic Ticket Office at the Sullivan Athletic Complex in Savage Arena, contact the Rocket Athletic Ticket Office at 419-530-GOLD (4653) or go online to UTRockets.com/MBBTix.
