TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Toledo men's tennis team heads to Chattanooga, Tenn. for two non-conference matches before opening Mid-American Conference play on March 13 at Buffalo. The Rockets are set to face North Alabama at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday and Chattanooga at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the UTC Tennis Center.Â

Scouting North Alabama
North Alabama is 2-11 (0-0 ASUN) with a 4-3 win over USC-Upstate and a 7-0 sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Lions have dropped matches to Auburn, Mississippi, Alabama, Middle Tennessee, Samford, Troy, Jacksonville State, Austin Peay. and Tennessee State.Â

Sophomore Cian Maguire leads the Lions with a 5-5 dual singles record from the No. 1 court. Maguire is on a four-match win streak. Leading UNA in doubles is the duo of Maguire and senior Andreas Hansen. Maguire/Hansen have a 3-3 dual doubles record on the No. 1 doubles court.Â

Last season was North Alabama's first season at the NCAA Division I level. The Lions went 3-16 (1-6 ASUN). North Alabama posted a 4-0 sweep of Mississippi Valley and 5-2 wins over Austin Peay and NJIT.Â

Scouting Chattanooga
Chattanooga is 11-4 (1-0 SOCON), tallying 7-0 sweeps over Austin Peay, Young Harris, The Citadel and a 9-0 sweep of Birmingham-Southern. The Mocs have also posted wins over Appalachian State, Union College (Ky.), Presbyterian, UAB, Belmont, UNC-Asheville, and USC-Upstate.Â

Niklas Gerdes leads the Mocs with a 14-1 (1-0 SOCON) dual singles record from the No. 1 court. Also boasting strong singles records are Tomas Rodriguez, who is 12-2 (1-0 SOCON) on the No. 2 court, and Jeffrey Dewald, who is 12-3 (1-0 SOCON) from primarily the No. 4 court. Gerdes/Rodriguez have notched an 11-1 (1-0 SOCON) dual doubles record, going undefeated on the No. 2 court (11-0).Â

Last season the Mocs went 14-11 (4-3 SOCON), posting sweeps of North Alabama, Austin Peay, North Dakota, Carson-Newman, and Covenant College. Chattanooga also edged out Lipscomb, Wofford, and UNCG, 4-3. In the Southern Conference Tournament, No. 3 seeded Chattanooga was upset by No. 6 seeded Mercer, 4-1.Â
