TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's tennis team opened their 2020 home season with a 5-2 win over Findlay and a 7-0 clean sweep of Tiffin at Shadow Valley Tennis Club on Friday.

"We didn't feel like we had a great week of practice and then we had a few minor health issues come up, but in spite of that today was productive," said head coach Al Wermer. "We did a good job of piling on a talented Tiffin team after we got the lead."

The Rockets kicked off competition with a 5-2 win over Findlay, securing the doubles point with 6-4 victories on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. The Rockets showed out in singles, with seniors Danilo Vukotic and Thawin Suksathaporn, junior Filip Zupancic, and freshman Krzysztof Wetoszka posting two-set victories over their opponents.

Toledo capped the evening with a 7-0 sweep of Tiffin. Vukotic, Wetoszka, Suksathaporn, Zuapancic, and freshman Max Skaer tallied two-set victories while sophomore Cole Shoults fought in a three-set battle. Shoults fell 1-6 in the first set to Matthew Telford before bouncing back to take the second 6-3, and clinch the third 10-8.

The Rockets continue home action at Shadow Valley Tennis Club in Maumee on Feb. 14 with a 1:00 p.m. match against Northwestern Ohio. Toledo will also host Youngstown State at 1:00 p.m. on Feb. 15.
