TOLEDO, Ohio - The bulk of the Toledo women's track and field team will compete in the Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio, while senior Petronela Simiuc and juniors Meltem Yasar and Semara Karaslan will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the JDL Camel City Elite meet. Both meets will run Friday and Saturday.Â

Last Time Out
The Rockets split up between Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 24 in Boston, Mass. and the SPIRE Midwest Open on Jan. 25 in Geneva, Ohio. Simiuc shattered Toledo's all-time mile record, posting a time of 4:38.40 to take sixth in Boston. Fellow senior Yana Khabina also broke a Toledo all-time record, posting a personal-best of 1:35.14 in the 600 meters at the SPIRE Midwest Open in Geneva, Ohio.Â

The Rockets last competed in the Akron Open on Feb. 2, 2008. Toledo posted 23 top-10 finishes and notched event wins in the mile (Renata Volf, 5:01.68), high jump (Michelle Sutherland, 1.68m), triple jump (Jaime Gittens, 11.56m), 200 meters (Amanda Kaverman, 25.42), 800 meters (Joyce Kennedy, 2:18.38), and pole vault (Shari Harmon, 3.50m).Â

Last Time at the JDL Camel City Elite
On Feb. 1, 2015, Mackenzie Chojnacky, Brooke Tullis, and Megan Wright competed at the JDL Camel City Elite races. Chojnacky and Tullis placed ninth and 13th in the 3000 meters, respectively. In the mile, Wright posted a time of 4:55.88 to place 13th.
