Rockets Head South for UNCW Softball Invitational

TOLEDO, Ohio -Â The University of Toledo softball team heads to Wilmington, N.C. for a three-day tournament hosted by UNC-Wilmington Feb. 28 - Mar. 1. The Rockets are scheduled to play five games over the three-day tournament, beginning with a 10:00 a.m. game against Marist on Friday, Feb. 28.

ABOUT TOLEDO
The Rockets are off to a hot start this season at 5-3. Junior Erin Hunt has picked up four wins, while freshman McKenna Schmidt has one. Hunt has thrown two one-hitters this season, and has been named MAC Pitcher of the Week Feb. 19. Junior transfer Dayna Denner is providing an immediate impact for Toledo with a .440 batting average (11-for-25) and 10 RBIs. Denner has hit two homers, one double, and one triple in the first eight games. Morgan Paaverud is contributing to the offense as well, hitting .280 (7-for-25) with four RBIs. Sophomores Aubrey Reed and Bri Robeson each have three RBIs through eight games. Robeson leads the Rockets with a .474 average and five runs scored.
SCOUTING MARIST
Marist is 4-5 to start the season, claiming wins over Green Bay, Northern Kentucky, Montana, and Belmont University. The Red Foxes are coming off a 5-1 loss to Arkansas at the Razorback Invitational this past weekend. Caroline Baratta led the way for Marist, going 2-for-4, Ali Milam went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
SCOUTING UNC-WILMINGTON
UNC-Wilmington is 2-11 this season with victories over Howard and Brown. The Seahawks are coming off a 1-0 loss in extra innings to Eastern Kentucky. Sophomore Jada Santiago paced UNCW offensively by going 2-for-3 against EKU. Senior Rylee Pate dropped to 2-4 on the season, conceding eight hits and one unearned run against the Colonels.
SCOUTING ROBERT MORRIS
Starting the season at 4-5, Robert Morris has posted wins over Presbyterian, South Carolina State, Valparaiso, and Colgate. The Colonials are looking to snap a three-game skid at the UNCW Softball Invitational, falling to Gardner-Webb twice and Colgate once in the last three games. Robert Morris is looking to bounce back from a 3-2 loss to Gardner-Webb at the Runnin' Bulldog Softball Tournament, where the Colonials went 2-3. Senior Madison Riggle went 3-for-5 against the Bulldogs. Through nine games, she is hitting .357 (10-for-28) with two home runs, six RBIs, and three runs scored.Â

The Rockets will hit the road for their fourth tournament of the 2020 season, traveling to Tennessee for the Tennessee Tournament hosted by the University of Tennessee Mar. 6 - 8.
