Toledo Heads to Alabama State for Weekend Series

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo baseball team visits Alabama State this weekend for a four-game series in Montgomery.  

This weekend's live stats link can be found here. The series kicks off on Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET, followed by a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET. Toledo and Alabama State will conclude their weekend with a Sunday contest at Noon ET. As always, follow along on Twitter at @ToledoBaseball for any and all updates.

Last Time Out
Toledo spent last weekend in San Antonio at the Alamo Irish Classic. The Rockets went 1-3 in the Lone Star State, defeating Incarnate Word while dropping contests to UTSA and Notre Dame.

The win over the Cardinals was the first of the season for the Rockets and the first for first-year head coach Rob Reinstetle. Toledo led 9-6 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, but UIW scored four to take a 10-9 advantage. Junior Zach Schwartzenberger drove in the tying run in the top of the ninth, and junior Lorenzo DeBrecht tallied the game-winning RBI on a base hit in the top of the 10th.

Rocket Notes
  • Junior Chris Meyers has reached base in 17 straight games dating back to last season. He has reached base multiple times in 11 of those 17 games.
  • Sophomore Darryn Davis riding streaks dating back to last season as well. He has a 13-game hitting streak entering this weekend, with six of those games being multi-hit efforts. Davis is hitting .415 during his hitting streak.
  • Meyers and Davis are among the top hitters in the MAC through the first two weeks. Davis ranks fourth in the league with a .414 batting average. Meyers sits right behind him in fifth, hitting .407.
  • Toledo's 17 hits against Incarnate Word are tied for the most by a MAC team in a game this season.

Scouting the Competition
Alabama State is 6-2 as of this writing, most recently suffering a 5-0 loss at Troy on Tuesday night. The Hornets will host UAB on Wednesday evening before welcoming Toledo for four games this weekend. ASU sports a 3.26 team ERA and has struck out 60 batters while walking 28. Individually, Austin King has posted a 0.82 ERA across two starts and opponents are hitting just .184 against him. At the plate, the Hornets are hitting .284 and getting on base at a .392 clip. Cameron Hearn (.387) and Dilan Espinal (.355) are two of Alabama State's leading hitters through the first two weeks of the season.
