Toledo Gears Up for Silverston Invitational

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's track and field team is set to close out its indoor regular season where it started - Ann Arbor, Mich. The Rockets are set to compete in Friday's Silverston Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan, with track and field events beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Senior Petronela Simiuc broke Toledo's indoor mile record for a second time this season at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass. Simiuc posted a time of 4:34.59, taking four seconds off the previous record that she posted on Jan. 24, also in Boston. Junior Semra Karaslan also recorded a personal-best in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:26.88, moving her into third place on Toledo's all-time list in the event.Â

At the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich., senior Raynesha Lewis placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.75m. Sophomore Rayna Horner posted a time of 58.66 in the 400m and fellow sophomore Holly Nation clocked a personal-best 9.94 in the 60-meter hurdles. Junior Kennedey Glover stopped the clock with a personal-best 1:37.75 in the 600m and senior Stephanie Sherman and freshman Madeline Vining posted PRs of 9:53.38 and 10:22.05, respectively, in the 3,000 meters.Â

Six Rockets competed in the Silverston Invitational on Feb. 16, 2018. Shanice Williams clocked a 7.44 in the 60 meters, moving to the top of the MAC for that season. Also on the track, Nautica Hill and Tori Thompson competed in the 200 meters, clocking times of 25.20 and 25.24 to place seventh and eighth, respectively. In the high jump, Atalia Lima placed third in the high jump with a mark of 1.65m. Chloee Kleespies and Sally Frank competed in the shot put, placing 13th (12.48m) and 16th (11.94), respectively.Â
