TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's tennis team defeated Youngstown State 5-2 at Shadow Valley Tennis Club on Saturday.

"This was a very solid team win against a Penguin team that beat us 6-1 a year ago," said head coach Al Wermer. "The guys were inspired from the first ball and throughout the day."

The Rockets started strong, earning the doubles point with wins on the No. 1 court and No. 2 courts. Senior Danilo Vukotic/junior Filip Zupancic defeated Joao Garretto/Will Everett, 6-2, on the No. 1 court. With a loss on the No. 3 court, the pressure was on sophomore Cole Shoults/freshman Krzysztof Wetoszka to secure the doubles point. Shoults/Wetoszka rose above opponents Vasilis Vardakis/Pol Virgili Blanco with a 6-4 win.

In singles, freshman Luis Kleinschnitz posted the Rockets' second point, defeating Will Everett in two quick sets, 6-2, 6-1 on the No. 5 court. On the No. 2 court, fellow freshman Krzysztof Wetoszka battled Joao Garretto in three sets, dropping the first 3-6, before bouncing back to take the second 6-4, and third 6-1. Shoults sealed Toledo's win with the Rockets' fourth point, downing Laurentiu Mandocescu 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 from the No. 3 court. Zupancic posted the Rockets' final point after a battle on the No. 5 court, defeating Pol Virgili Blanco 6-1, 2-6, 6-1.

The Rockets continue their home stretch of matches next week as they host Saint Francis on Feb. 21 at 1:00 p.m. and Wayne State on Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m.
