Rockets Launch Season with Close Defeat at CMU

SHEPARD, Mich. - The University of Toledo men's cross country team opened its season with a solid performance vs. Central Michigan at the Jeff Drenth Memorial on Saturday. The Rockets were narrowly edged out by the Chippewas, 27-30. Freshman Nathan Kemp was first to cross the line for the Rockets with a fourth-place time of 16:05.5.
Sophomore Alex Kelker clocked in at 16:22.05 taking the last top five spot. Following closely behind was senior Micah Swartz (sixth/16:28.0) and freshman Austin Cunningham (seventh/16.36.7).
The fifth Rocket to cross the finish line was freshman Caleb Newlon taking eighth with a time of 16:52.2. Junior Raymond Korir stopped the clock at 17:21.1 , while freshman Xavier Gallo came in at 17.27.2.
