1/8/2020 12:05:00 PM

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo softball team is set to host six home series during the 2020 season, second-year head coach Joe Abraham announced Wednesday. The Rockets, who took home the 2019 Mid-American Conference Tournament title will face five 2019 NCAA Tournament teams. The team opens the season with five competitive tournaments and will host six series at Scott Park.

"We like to challenge ourselves and we put a few highlight games on the schedule each year," said Abraham. "This year, we will go to Michigan, Ohio State, and Notre Dame, as well as a tournament at Tennessee where we'll play Tennessee and Stanford. At the urging of the coaches, everyone will play everyone in the MAC, which is a fairer way of determining a regular season champion and seedings for the conference tournament."

The Rockets will open the season with the first 27 games on the road, beginning with a five-game series at Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 7-9. The trip continues at the 2020 Hampton Classic hosted by the University of Hampton and Norfolk State Feb. 21-23. Five days later, the Rockets will travel south to Wilmington, N.C. for five games in the UNC-Wilmington Softball Invitational, Feb. 28 – Mar. 1. The Rockets will have a short break before traveling to the University of Tennessee for three games Mar. 6 -7. Toledo closes out its long road trip at the Madeira Beach Tournament, Mar. 10-14.

The Rockets will travel to Ohio State on Mar. 18, before opening their home schedule with a doubleheader on Mar. 21 to Mid-American Conference foe Kent State. Three days later, the team will hit the road for a single-game contest against Michigan on Mar. 24. Toledo closes out the month of March at home, welcoming Ball State for a doubleheader in the Glass City.

Toledo open the month of April at home with a doubleheader against MAC opponent Ohio on Apr. 3, before hitting the road for a six-game stretch against Miami (Apr. 4), Youngstown State (Apr. 7), and Western Michigan (Apr. 10).

In mid-April, Toledo will host Cleveland State on Apr. 15, followed by a road trip weekend at Northern Illinois (Apr. 18) and Notre Dame (Apr. 21). The Rockets will close out their home schedule Apr. 24 – 25 as they play host to MAC members Akron and Buffalo.

The month of May will see the Rockets head to I-75 rival Bowling Green on the first, followed by a trip to Central Michigan on May 2.
