Cleveland, Ohio— Former Toledo baseball player Brad Boss was named a Distinguished Scholar Athlete by the Mid-American Conference, the league office announced on Wednesday.
A total of 106 students were voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions representing the 'best of the best' from each sports Academic All-MAC Teams.
A three-time Academic All-MAC selection, Boss was also named second-team all-conference after a terrific senior campaign. He led the Rockets with a .330 batting average, 45 runs scored, 43 RBIs, 32 walks, 18 doubles, and a .505 slugging percentage, all of which were career highs. The Temperance, Mich. native started every game as Toledo's center fielder, and he led the team with 23 multi-hit games, 13 multi-RBI games. Boss was a MAC Player of the Week winner earlier this season (April 22) after hitting .400, slugging 1.000, and tallying five extra-base hits to go with nine walks during a stretch of games against Oakland, Purdue Fort Wayne and Central Michigan.
Boss ended his career having played in 192 consecutive games for the Rockets, dating back to the 2016 season. His 115 career walks are the most all-time by a player in program history, and he also finished his collegiate career in the Top 10 all-time at Toledo in runs scored (129), total bases (328), and hits (214).
From the Academic All-MAC Teams, the faculty athletic representatives selected the 'best of the best' of our Academic All-MAC Teams to be honored with Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award for the 2018-19 season with a 3.50 GPA or higher. The number of Distinguished Scholar Athletes from each sport were equivalent to the number of first-team selections or 20% of nominees, whichever was greater.
