Duncan McNeill Heading to NCAA Louisville Regional Next Week

   TOLEDO, Ohio — Senior Duncan McNeill (Annan, Scotland) will represent the University of Toledo men's golf program when he competes in the 2019 NCAA Louisville Regional hosted by the University of Louisville in Simpsonville, Ky. The tournament will be held Monday-Wednesday, May 13-15 at the par-71, 7,217-yard University of Louisville Golf Club.
       A two-time All-MAC selection, McNeill earned an automatic bid to regional play by winning the Mid-American Conference Championships in Aurora, Ohio. Originally scheduled as a 72-hole event over three days, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to heavy rain and was played on Saturday, April 27. McNeill carded a five-under 139 to outdistance his nearest competitor by three strokes. He tied for the tournament lead with 27 pars and finished with seven birdies and just two bogeys.
      McNeill is the third Rocket to compete in a NCAA event as an individual. Chris Selfridge participated in regional play in 2013 and 2015, while Otto Black earned a spot in 2016.
      McNeill competed in the NCAA Regionals on two previous occasions - 2016 in Stillwater and 2017 in Austin - prior to transferring to Toledo from McNeese State before his junior year.

The Regional Field
     The NCAA Louisville Regional features 13 teams and 10 individuals. The top five teams and the top individual not one of an advancing team will move on to the NCAA Championships on May 24-29 at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. Five teams and one individual will also advance from the Athens (Ga.), Austin (Texas), Murrells Inlet (S.C.), Stanford (Calif.) and Pullman (Wash.) Regionals.
      The Louisville field includes five Top 25 teams (according to Golfstat rankings): #1 Oklahoma State, #11 Auburn, #13 North Florida, #21 Louisville and #25 Baylor. The field also includes 16 Top 100 players. The Cowboys' Matthew Wolf and Viktor Hovland are ranked No. 1 and No. 3 in the nation, respectively.

MAC Medalist
      Duncan McNeill is the fifth Rocket in program history to capture medalist honors at the conference championships. Ciaran McAleavey was the last Toledo golfer to do so in 2008 with the Rockets' other MAC medalists including Brad Heaven in 2004, Mike Stone in 1992 and Tim Hirt in 1979, 1980 and 1981. Tim Rice tied for first place in 1997.

MAC Golfer of Week
      Duncan McNeill has earned MAC Men's Golfer of the Week honors three times during his Rocket career. He received the weekly award this season after tying for fifth place at Ohio State's Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on April 19-20 with a one-over par 143 (70-73).
      McNeill's performance helped lead the Rockets on OSU's par-71, 7,455-yard Scarlet Course against a field that included No. 40 Florida and No. 45 Ohio State as well as MAC schools Ball State, Kent State, Miami and Northern Illinois.
      McNeill carded a one-under 70 in cold, windy and rainy conditions in Friday's opening round. He enjoyed his most success on par-five holes, finishing at two-under par. He also tied for fifth place in the field with 26 pars.
