Rockets Lift Off for MAC Tournament Friday

Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo men's tennis team (10-12, 3-4 MAC) earned a No. 4 seed for the Mid-American Conference tournament in Kalamazoo, Mich. and will open play in the quarterfinal round with a 2:00 p.m. match against No. 5 seeded Ball State on Friday.Â

The Rockets enter the tournament  after wrapping the regular season with a 6-1 loss to Northern Illinois on Sunday. Senior Luka Vitosevic secured the Rockets' sole point with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Eric Marbach on the No. 1 court.Â

Rocket Rewind: Toledo vs. Ball StateÂ
The Rockets edged past Ball State, 4-3, in Toledo on March 22. In doubles play, junior Danilo Vukotic and senior Vince Anzalone defeated Tom Carney/Thibault de Negri 6-3 on the No. 2 court while senior duo Omar Espinosa/Vitosevic defeated twins Nemanja and Marko Guzina 6-4 on the No. 1 court. Espinosa and Vukotic later earned two-set sweeps on the No. 4 and No. 2 singles courts and Vitosevic clinched the match with a 6-7(8), 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Marko Guzina on the No. 1 court.

Scouting Ball State
Ball State enters the MAC tournament with an 11-13 record (2-5 MAC) after a 4-3 win over Binghamton. Conner Andersen posted a 10-5 record (3-3 MAC) in singles dual match action, splitting his time between the No. 4, No, 5, and No. 6 courts. Chris Adams posted an 11-10 (4-2 MAC) dual match record, spending most of this time on the No. 4 and No. 5 courts. In doubles play duos Marko Guzina/Nemanja Guzina and Adams/Anderson tie for team best dual match record, going 8-8 on the season overall. In MAC play the Guzina twins went 4-1, with their only loss coming from Espinosa/Vitosevic. Adams/Anderson went 3-3 in MAC play.Â

Returning champions Western Michigan (16-8, 7-0 MAC) claimed the regular season title after their match against Toledo and clinched the No. 1 seed in the tournament.Â

Buffalo was named the No. 2 seed after going 11-8 on the season and 6-1 in MAC play. The Bulls' only MAC loss came against Western Michigan in March. UB is on a four match winning streak, notching their last win over Ball State.

Northern Illinois earned the No. 3 seed after finishing the regular season 11-11 overall and 3-4 in the conference. The Huskies enter the tournament after a 6-1 over Toledo.Â

Binghamton was named the No. 6 seed after finishing the season 8-14 (0-7 MAC). The Bearcats finished the regular season on a seven-match losing streak.Â
