Rockets Ready for Opening Day Against Golden Flashes

Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo softball team (8-15) welcomes Kent State (7-15) to Scott Park for opening weekend and the first conference series of the 2019 season. UT and KSU play a 3:00 p.m. opener on Friday followed by a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, and all of the action can be seen live on ESPN3.

Toledo is coming off Indiana's Hoosier Classic where the team split a two-game series against Saint Francis (W, 11-0; L, 9-7) but fell to Indiana (9-6) and Northwestern (11-2). Day one of the tournament saw sophomore pitcher Erin Hunt record her fifth win of the year while senior Kaitlyn Bergman and sophomore Bekah Yenrick both homered against the Red Flash. Day two featured a strong offensive outing from freshman Aubrey Reed who recorded two hits, scored one run, brought in another, and got on for a walk in four at-bats.

The Rockets went 2-1 on the road against the Golden Flashes in 2018, falling 7-6 in game one but rallying for 11-3 and 6-3 victories to take the series. UT's runs that weekend came from Kylie Norwood, Bailey Curry, Katie Cozy, Ebony Garza, Bekah Yenrick, Megan Choate and Kaitlyn Bergman. Toledo recorded five homers as well thanks to Garza (1), Cozy (2), Choate (1) and Curry (1).

- Redshirt freshman pitcher Andrea Scali is tenth in the nation for strikeouts per seven innings, averaging 10.3 per outing.
- KSU's biggest victories so far this season came from a series win over No. 21 Baylor. Kent State won 1-0 in game one and followed up with a 6-5 eight-inning shootout. The Golden Flashes, MAC champions two seasons ago, also took two convincing wins over Penn State early in the season (11-0 (5), 9-2).
