Rockets Kick Off Conference Play With 5-2 Win Over Binghamton

Williamsville, N.Y. – The University of Toledo men's tennis team opened Mid-American Conference play with a 5-2 victory over Binghamton at Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville, N.Y. on Saturday.

"I'm very proud of all of our guys," said head coach Al Wermer. "Our year, to this point, has prepared us for the MAC season at several levels: physical, technical, and most importantly, the mindset."

The Rockets had a strong start, clinching the doubles point with wins on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. Senior dup Omar Espinosa/Luka Vitosevic defeated Tiago Lourenco/Kushaan Nath 6-3 and senior Juan Carranza/freshman Cole Shoults defeated Dylan Friedman/Inigo Saez 6-1.

In singles action four Rockets posted two-set sweeps to clinch the match. Junior Danilo Vukotic won on the No. 2 court, defeating Nath 6-1, 6-3. On the No. 3 court senior Vince Anzalone defeated Lourenco 6-4 in both sets. Espinosa won 6-3, 6-1 over Dylan Friedman on the No. 4 court and junior Thawin Suksathaporn downed Saez 6-2, 6-3 on the No. 5 court.
