Rockets Ship Off to Boston and Kent State for Weekend Meets

Toledo, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's track and field team will split its squad this weekend, with five Rockets set to compete in Friday at the David Hemrey Invitational in Boston, while the majority of the team heads to Kent State for the Doug Raymond National Qualifier on Saturday.

Seniors Janelle Noe, Petronela Simiuc and Jennifer Lichter, junior Athena Welsh, and freshman Claire Steigerwald will compete in the mile and 5000m events at the David Hemrey Invitational on Friday. The Midnight Blue and Gold will be competing in full force at the Doug Raymond National Qualifier the following day, with several entrants slated to compete in multiple events.
The Rockets' last visit to Boston University was back on Jan. 28, 2006 where April Williams set the UT indoor triple jump record and qualified for the NCAA Championships with a leap of 41-10 (12.75) at the Boston University Terrier Classic.

At last season's Kent State National Qualifier, Dewey broke her own school record in the weight throw with a toss of 17.57, which she surpassed in this season's BGSU Dual (17.70m). Dewey also took third in the shot put (14.62m). Riley Kwiatkowski, Amanda Bakley, and Morgan Dembowski posted PRs in the 3000m event, where Kwiatkowski took second (10:09.14), Â Bakley took fourth (10:21.33), and Dembowski took ninth (10:48.56).

The Rockets return to the track after a successful weekend at the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame. Noe set a UT record in the 800m with a time of 2:09.20 to finish sixth with Simiuc following closely to clock UT's third fastest time (2:10.61), finishing 10th.

Senior Shanice Williams fought her way to the 60m dash finals after clinching first in the preliminary (7.53) and semifinal (7.53) rounds. Williams landed second in the finals with a time of 7.52.Â

The 4x400m relay team, featuring seniors Christina Johnson, Nautica Hill, Yana Khabina, and freshman Rayna Horner, clocked the second fastest time in school history (3:48.84).

In the field, senior Katie Dewey led the Rockets in the throws, landing third in the shot put (15.19m) and 11th in the weight throw. Sophomore Janell Rowe took 11th in the triple jump (11.75m) while junior Atalia da Silva took seventh in the high jump (1.60m).Â
