TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team defeated Saint Francis, 6-1, at Two's Athletic Club on Friday.Â
Â
"I think today's match was good for us," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "We had last weekend off which I think is a blessing and a curse at the same time. As coaches we like that time off because we can work on specific things, but at the same time the dust settles a little bit and I think today we saw that at the beginning. The girls haven't played in two weeks in terms of competing against another opponent. Saint Francis is solid and I think one thing the girls will take from this one is that you never really underestimate opponents."
Â
The Rockets claimed the doubles point early with wins from the senior duo of
Thalita Rodrigues/
Kokoro Chishaki (6-3) on the No. 2 court and the freshman/senior duo
Christina Fuller/
Claire Aleck (6-0) on the No. 3 court.Â
Â
In singles action, junior
Dee Dee Leenabanchong, freshman
Eileen Carney, Fuller, and Aleck swept their opponents in two sets each.
Chishaki settled in for a long battle against
Raksha Bode at the No. 3 spot.
Chishaki dropped the first set 3-6, but rallied to clinch the win in the second and third sets (6-2, 10-7). Â
