CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Toledo women's soccer team produced a league-high 16 Academic All-MAC honorees this year, the league office announced Wednesday. The 16 recipients are also a program record.
"We are very proud of these 16 players success in the classroom," said head coach
TJ Buchholz. "It is definitely not easy to manage the demands of playing our sport and excelling in the classroom. To see so many players honored this year with this conference award is very rewarding for our program."Â
Sophomores
Lexa Bauer (political science) and
Ashton Cassel (nursing), and senior
Rachelle Topolewski (IDVP) each earned a perfect 4.000 grade point average in their respective majors. Eight more Rockets earned a 3.50 or higher.
Cassel also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors earlier this season. She was one of six MAC women's soccer players to be named to an Academic All-District team.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and have participate din at least 50 percent of the contest for that sport.
