Toledo Posts Seventh-Place Finish at MAC Championships
11/2/2019 5:08:00 PM | Men's Cross Country
DEKALB, Ill. - The University of Toledo men's cross country team finished seventh overall with 168 points at the Mid-American Conference Championship Meet on Saturday. Two Rockets earned all-conference honors, after landing in the top 14.Â
Â
Freshman Jacob Harris was the first Rocket to cross the finish line, posting a time of 25:42.3 to take sixth. Harris' finish earned him All-MAC first-team honors and he was named Freshman of the Year.Â
Â
"Today was a really good step forward for our men's program," said head coach Andrea Grove-McDonough. "Having a true freshman finish in the top 10, and to be Freshman of the Year is great. I can't say enough about this young man. He's had his ups and downs, like freshmen often do, but to bounce back after a disappointing race at Pre-Nationals in this fashion was just want you'd expect to see from a true competitor. Jacob is just that. He knew we'd need his low stick up there for the team and he delivered."
Â
Sophomore Raymond Korir posted a 13th-place finish with a time of 25:57.1. Korir was named Second-Team All-MAC.
Â
"I also can't skip mentioning Raymond, who fought really hard over the final kilometer. He wasn't having his best day, but he just put his head down and kept fighting. That's the culture we are trying to build and he will be a big part of the future of this program," said Grove-McDonough.
Â
Senior Dismas Koech posted a time of 26:56.3 and freshman Tanner Delk posted a time of 26:58.8.Â
Â
"We had a nice fight from our entire lineup today with lots of freshmen who we're looking forward to being back next year. It was our best finish in eight years, so you can't be too disappointed in that," said Grove-McDonough.Â
