TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's tennis team closed out the second day of competition at the Rocket Invitational at Twos Athletic Club with five singles victories. Sophomore Eileen Carney finished the weekend in a three-way tie with Oakland's Darya Malseva and Duquesne's Natasha Novak for the No. 2 singles flight winner after going 2-1 on the weekend. Junior Patricia Panta, who went 2-1 at the No. 4 singles position, tied with Duquesne's Margot Pessy as a flight winner. Panta also teamed with freshman Laura Morera, to finish the weekend with a 2-0 doubles record, earning the No. 3 doubles flight title.

"Overall, I'm happy with the progress we've made since August," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "We continue to train hard on the court to be our best in March and April during the MAC season. I definitely think we are moving in the right direction."

Senior Dee Dee Leenabanchong emerged victorious from a three-set thriller against Duquesne's Laural Shymansky in the morning session. Leenabanchong won the first set 6-4 before dropping the second 4-6. She then clinched the win in the third 11-9. Graduate student Zina Mehikic also locked into a three-set thriller, defeating Duquesne's Daniella Latoni 6-1, 4-6, 12-10.

Carney was involved in a three-set battle against Oakland's Darya Maltseva in the afternoon session. After dropping the first set 3-6, Carney came back strong in the second, 6-1, and clinched the win in the third 10-7. Freshman Sloane Teske also notched a win against Oakland's Aarja Chakraborty 7-6(6), 6-3 and Panta defeated Oakland's Samantha Galloway, 6-4, 6-4.
