Rockets Blast Past Bowling Green in Rivalry Meet

Bowling Green, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's track & field squad blasted past Bowling Green in the BGSU Dual Meet, defeating the Falcons by a 70-59 margin.Â

"I'm very happy with our women tonight and the effort I saw across the board," said head coach Linh Nguyen. "It's always been close when we dual BG outdoor and I think the team came here today ready to get after it. We had a lot of event wins and some very strong performances. We stepped it up from last week and I'm feeling good about where the team stands this early in the season."Â
In the field events, the Rockets racked up points in the jumps category, where sophomore Janell Rowe placed first in the long jump (5.55m) as well as the triple jump (11.38m). Senior Deja Martin also finished high in the jumps, taking second in the long jump (5.31m) and third in the triple jump (10.51m). Atalia da Silva secured first in the high jump with a height of 1.63m. Senior Katie Dewey led the Rockets in the throws, landing in the top five for the weight throw (third, 17.70m) and shot put (second, 14.18m).Â

On the track, the Rockets kept a steady pace against BG with senior Shanice Williams, ranked No. 1 in the MAC, leading the pack in the 60m dash in a time of 7.58. In the 800m event, senior Petronela Simiuc took first (2:13.21, ranked No. 1 in the MAC), with senior Olivia Chinn following closely to take second (2:20.20) and sophomore Kennedey Glover placing fourth (2:25.60). Freshman Claire Steigerwald, who ranks third in the MAC, led the Rockets in the mile (5:06.38) with senior Joan Jepkirui (5:08.63) following closely to take second. UT dominated the 3000 meters with Athena Welsh, who ranks third in the MAC, leading the pack (9:37.72) followed by Janelle Noe (9:47.75), Jennifer Lichter (9:53.26), Stephanie Sherman (10:10.96), and Elisabeth LaPrad (10:40.80).Â
