Toledo Hosts MAC East Division Frontrunner Kent State on Saturday

TOLEDO, Ohio - Toledo (9-4, 1-1 MAC) will look to get back to its winning ways on Saturday, Jan. 12 with a Mid-American Conference cross-division match-up against East Division frontrunner Kent State (9-4, 2-0 MAC). Tip-off time is slated for 2:00 p.m. in Savage Arena and will be streamed on ESPN3.
UT, which appears at No. 10 in this week's espnW Mid-Major Poll and No. 21 in the collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, is coming off a tough 65-64 loss at Miami on Wednesday to snap its three-game winning streak.
Trailing 65-62 with 4.6 seconds left, senior Mikaela Boyd took the ball the length of the floor and passed it to junior Sara Rokkanen on the wing. The Helsinki, Finland native had a good look at a game-tying triple, but her shot was long. Sophomore Tatyana Davis grabbed the offensive rebound out of the air and scored a layup as a horn sounded to make the final score 65-64.
Senior Kaayla McIntyre paced UT with a game-high 23 points and nine rebounds against the RedHawks to surpass the 20-point plateau for a squad-best fourth time this year.
Rokkanen added a season-high 13 points off the bench and sophomore Nakiah Black had 10.
As a team, the Rockets shot a respectable 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the field, but they were limited to 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from the charity stripe.
Toledo, which sports a 5-1 home record this season, is fueled offensively by the quartet of McIntyre, junior Mariella Santucci, Boyd and Black, who are averaging 15.5, 10.2, 9.5 and 8.0 ppg, respectively. This group is responsible for 63.9 percent (553-of-865) of Toledo's scoring.
UT will face a red-hot KSU team that is riding a six-game winning streak, most recently claiming an 87-78 home triumph against Northern Illinois on Wednesday. Kent State closed the game on a 20-9 run to start MAC play with a 2-0 record for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
Individually, Ali Poole poured in a career-high 28 points to lead the Golden Flashes vs. the Huskies, while Asiah Dingle and Lindsey Thall had 17 points apiece.
Kent State, which is 3-3 away from home this year, features three players scoring in double figures and is led by Megan Carter and Dingle at 14.5 and 13.8 ppg, respectively.

Following tomorrow's MAC contest, the Rockets will travel to West Division rival Western Michigan (7-6, 1-1 MAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 16. The opening tip against the Broncos is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in University Arena and will be shown on ESPN+.Â
