Deonte Henderson Named Toledo Women’s Basketball Graduate Assistant

Henderson spent four seasons in various roles with the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball program has named Deonte Henderson as a graduate assistant for the 2026-27 season on Tuesday.
Henderson returns to his hometown after several years of coaching, training and player performance work in California. This includes coaching a local high school team and spending four seasons with the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks.
"We are thrilled to welcome Deonte Henderson to Toledo women's basketball as graduate assistant," said Head Coach Ginny Boggess. "Deonte brings tremendous energy, an incredible pedigree, and an unwavering commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court. His passion for the game, willingness to serve, and eagerness to learn make him an outstanding addition to our staff. Team Toledo, please welcome Deonte, Tori, Soraya and Phoenix to the family!"
"I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Boggess and the University of Toledo women's basketball program," said Henderson. "Returning home to pursue my master's degree while representing a university just 10 minutes from where I grew up is incredibly special and something I don't take for granted. Everything about this transition feels aligned, and I'm excited to be part of such a tremendous program. I look forward to serving our student-athletes and contributing in any way I can to help our team compete at a high level. Go Rockets!"
The Toledo native spent four years with the Sparks in various roles. He was a practice player in his first two years and was later a basketball operations and player development intern, and an assistant player development coach. In his roles with the Sparks, Henderson focused on player development and evaluation, tailored individual training sessions and warmups and executed player development plans. He also managed team attendants and prepared practice players for training.
Henderson was also a varsity assistant coach at Redondo Union High School, where he guided the team to an appearance in the Division I playoffs in 2024-25, and later to the CIF Southern Section open division in 2025-26.
In previous roles, Henderson worked with Open Gym Premier and Second Spectrum. His roles included live in-game stats and database management for prep players and analytics management of the NBA, MLS and Premier League. He also recently launched a player development company, Game Speed Development in February.
Henderson graduated from California State Dominguez Hills University (Carson, Calif.) with a bachelor's degree in public relations and advertising in 2024. He and his wife Tori have two daughters – Soraya and Phoenix.
