Basketball Hall of Famer and WNBA champion Katie Smith headlines event as guest speaker
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's basketball program will hold its annual Tipoff Dinner on Monday, Oct. 12, with Hall of Fame inductee and WNBA champion Katie Smith headlining the event as a guest speaker.
The annual fundraising dinner returns to the Student Union Auditorium for a night of prizes, games, food, fun and interactions with Toledo women's basketball players, coaches and staff. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the program beginning around 6:30.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Katie Smith to our Tipoff Dinner," said Head Coach Ginny Boggess. "She is an absolute legend in every sense of the word. I can't wait for her to share her passion for the game with Rocket fans in what will surely be a very special evening."
Ticket options for the dinner are available for adults ($60), couples ($110), a Victory Table ($550), an MVP Table ($1,050) and children 10 and under ($10). The MVP Table includes seating for eight, name recognition and a group photo with Smith and Coach Boggess. The Victory Table also includes seating for eight and name recognition.
All tickets include dinner and drinks, and all money raised through the dinner will go back to the program.

About Guest Speaker Katie Smith
A Logan, Ohio native, Katie Smith is a decorated player and coach in women's basketball. She played collegiately at Ohio State and was part of the program's only Final Four team in 1992-93. She then went on to a 17-year pro career between the American Basketball League and the WNBA, including winning the 2006 and 2008 WNBA titles with the Detroit Shock. Smith was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018. After her playing career, Smith spent 11 seasons coaching in the WNBA, including two as the head coach for the New York Liberty, before returning to her alma mater as an assistant coach in 2024.
