Rockets Set for Weekend of Rematches

Toledo, Ohio - The University of Toledo men's tennis team is set for two re-matches this weekend. UT travels to Buffalo on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. Mid-American Conference matchup before heading down to Columbus, Ohio, to play No. 3 Ohio State at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Head coach Al Wermer's goal going into the weekend is to keep seeing consistent growth from his side.
"As with every match, we want to see continuous improvement, and we want to see the continued desire to compete and win," Wermer said. "We're constantly working with our players to develop their style of play and help shape their match plan."
Non-conference matchups at this point in the season are uncommon, but Wermer isn't concerned with sticking to the status quo. The Rockets were originally scheduled to only play two matches between March 24 and April 13. Wermer says that adding the match against the Buckeyes "helps us stay sharp" in lieu of the light mid-season schedule, and that his team was eager for a rematch.
The Rockets are looking to rebound from a 5-2 loss to Ball State on March 24. UT's points came from juniors Vince Anzalone and Serjen Olmedo during singles competition. Anzalone went 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot to register Toledo's first point. Olmedo went 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot to secure Toledo's second.
SCOUTING BUFFALO
Defending Mid-American Conference champion Buffalo (8-8, 1-1 MAC) is coming off a weekend of mixed results. The Bulls fell, 7-0, to Columbia on March 30. Despite the sweep, the doubles pair of Petr Vodak and Vidit Vaghela managed to earn a 6-4 win in No. 1 doubles, taking down the No. 34 ranked duo of Jack Lin and William Matheson.
SCOUTING OHIO STATE
The Buckeyes (19-2, 5-0 B1G) are on a seven-match winning streak and are coming off a victory, 4-2, victory over No. 22 Kentucky on Wednesday. OSU took the doubles point thanks to the No 2. duo of John McNally/Mikael Torpegaard and the No. 3 pairing of Hunter Tubert/Matt Mendez. Ohio State and Kentucky were neck and neck throughout singles competition. JJ Wolf (No. 2), John McNally (No. 3) and Martin Joyce (No. 5) were all pushed to three-set matches but managed to beat their opponents and secure the victory for the Scarlet and Gray.
