Muncie, Ind. - The Toledo women's tennis team (16-7, 5-3 MAC) fell 4-2 to No. 2 seed Miami (12-8, 7-1 MAC) in the semifinal round of the Mid-American Conference tournament today. Senior Sidnay Huck was selected to the All-Tournament team following the match. Huck went undefeated in singles and doubles competitions during the tournament.
The Rockets finish the year tying a program record: Most wins in a single season. Toledo hit the 16-win mark for the first time since the 2006-07 campaign (16-6, Mauntler).
"This is bittersweet for us," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "We've had an incredible year and this team has shown so much class and heart this entire season, we just didn't have enough today. This team has so much to be proud of. They have set a new standard for Rocket Tennis. They have built a foundation that can't be shaken."
Toledo started the match by clinching the doubles point. The No. 1 team of Huck and junior Kokoro Chishaki defeated Nelli Ponomareva and Anastasiia Vasiukhina 6-1 to give UT the advantage. Senior Colleen O'Brien and sophomore Dee Dee Leenabanchong clinched the point with a 6-2 victory over Milana Lysova and Priyanan Kalita in the No. 2 spot.
The Redhawks rallied during singles competition, taking the first set in all but one match and putting a stop to Toledo's momentum. Huck was the lone Rocket to walk away with a victory. Playing in the No. 2 slot, Huck went 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 over Milana Lysova to stop the Redhawks from sweeping the singles.
