Ypsilanti, Mich. - The Toledo women's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over Eastern Michigan on Friday to extend its winning streak to four matches. The day was highlighted by senior Sidnay Huck's No. 2 match-clinching singles win, and the pair of senior Colleen O'Brien/sophomore Dee Dee Leenabanchong earning their 15th-straight doubles-match victory.
Â
"This team continues to show how well they play under pressure," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "Their mental toughness improves every time they step out onto the court. They play so hard for each other out there and that's why they've seen so much success."
Â
The day started with Toledo sweeping the doubles point. O'Brien and Leenabanchong continued their dominant season by beating opponents Marie Mayerova and Giuliana Ansaloni 6-2. The victory was the UT team's 15th-straight win of the season. Huck and doubles partner junior Kokoro Chishaki then clinched the point with a 6-2 win over EMU's Ani Gogvadze and Andrea Martinovska.
Â
The Rockets continued pressing the Eagles in singles competition. Chishaki led off with a sweep in the No. 4 spot, beating her opponent 6-0, 6-3. O'Brien followed in the No. 3 spot with her own two-set victory, beating Martinovska 6-3, 6-4. The match was clinched for Toledo in the No. 2 match thanks to Huck. She took the first set 6-4 but dropped the second one 4-6. The Fort Wayne, Ind. native rallied in the third set, closing the match with a 6-4 victory.
Â
Toledo returns to action on Sunday against Western Michigan. The match is scheduled to be played at 1:00 p.m. on the UT varsity tennis courts, but inclement weather could move the match indoors to Shadow Valley (Maumee).
