TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo softball team travels to Eastern Michigan to resume its Mid-American Conference series on Wednesday, April 11. The Rockets and the Eagles will play a doubleheader with game times at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. from Varsity Field in Ypsilanti, Mich.
The Rockets previously defeated EMU by a score of 5-2 in their first meeting. UT rapped out four doubles and took advantage of four Eastern Michigan errors en route to the win.
Toledo (25-13, 9-1 MAC)
The Rockets enter the week in sole possession of first place in the conference with a 9-1 record. Toledo has won conference series over Akron, Kent State and Bowling Green to start MAC play and is currently riding a six-game winning streak.
Reigning MAC West Pitcher of the Week junior Heather Webb leads the Rockets' pitching staff with a 12-6 record and a 2.11 ERA. Webb has struck out a team-best 76 batters in 102.2 innings. Junior Kailey Minarchick equals Webb's win total with 12 wins of her own and tops the squad with 108.1 innings pitched. Sophomore Leah Allison recorded her first win of the season in the Rockets' come-from-behind 5-4 win over BGSU on Saturday.
Offensively, the Rockets are led at the top of the lineup by a pair of freshman. Bailey Curry and Kylie Norwood rank in the top-10 in the conference in hits with 44 and 43, respectively. Curry is tied for the league lead with 11 home runs, while Norwood ranks tied for second in the MAC with 30 runs scored.
Toledo boasts one of the deepest lineups in the MAC with seven batters hitting .250 or better on the season.
Eastern Michigan (6-27, 2-8 MAC)
The Eagles snapped an 18-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over Miami on the weekend. EMU kept the momentum going and clinched an impressive series win over the RedHawks with an 8-2 victory in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. Eastern Michigan will take on nationally ranked Michigan on Tuesday before hosting the Rockets.
The brightest spot in the EMU lineup has been Amanda Akles. Akles leads the club in average (.356), hits (36), home runs (6), RBIs (21) and runs scored (15).
