Toledo Takes to the Road For Series Against MAC Champion Kent State

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo softball team takes its unbeaten conference record on the road to battle defending Mid-American Conference Tournament champion Kent State on March 30-31. The Rockets and Golden Flashes will play a single game on Friday, March 30 at 3:00 p.m., followed by a Saturday doubleheader at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. All three games will be played at the Diamond at Dix on the KSU campus.
Toledo (19-12, 3-0 MAC)
The Rockets are currently on a five-game winning streak and have won nine of their last 10 games entering the weekend. Toledo outscored Akron 34-7 in a three-game sweep to open the conference schedule last weekend. On Wednesday, UT pitchers held Oakland to just one run in a doubleheader to take a pair of wins over the Golden Grizzlies.
Five has been the magic number for the Rockets pitching staff this year. Toledo is an impressive 19-4 when allowing five runs or less this season. Conversely, the Rockets are 0-8 when surrendering six runs or more. UT's pitching staff boasts a 2.58 ERA in 211.1 innings this season.
The Rockets lineup is a deep and dangerous group with its top nine hitters hitting .237 or better. Toledo has recorded 23 home runs as a group which ranks third in the conference.
Kent State (16-11, 2-1 MAC)
The Golden Flashes won their last two games against Cinderella school UMBC and Georgetown this week. KSU opened their MAC slate with a 2-1 series win over Western Michigan. The Flashes defeated by one run in the first two games, but suffered a run-rule loss in the final contest.
Senior infielder Holly Speers is hitting .538 (35-for-65) and has an on-base percentage of .674 on the season. Both are good for the second-best marks in the country.
In the circle, Kent State is led by Madi Huck with a 9-3 ledger in 17 appearances. Huck leads the squad with a 2.76 ERA in 76.0 innings.
