Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo men's tennis team will travel to Muncie, Ind. this weekend to take on Ball State in the second week of Mid-American Conference action. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Â
Coming off of MAC opening weekend matches against Western Michigan on Friday and defending MAC champion Buffalo on Sunday, head coach Al Wermer discussed what he liked from his team's performance.
Â
"Our guys kept battling," Wermer said. "In the match against Buffalo, we hung around really well. There was a lot of back and forth in the doubles, and although the final score doesn't show it, the singles were quite close as well."
Â
Looking at the Cardinals, Wermer mentioned that his team doesn't need to "reinvent the wheel" as they prepare for Saturday's match. The biggest thing is getting through personal mental barriers and making sure the team stays focused.
Â
SCOUTING BALL STATE
The Cardinals are 11-5 on the season and are a perfect 8-0 at home. The team is coming off of a weekend that saw mixed results. Ball State won, 4-3, over Binghamton on Saturday and fell, 5-2, to Northern Illinois on Sunday. The top singles player for the Cardinals is Bryce Bonin, who's 10-3 in dual matches this season. Bonin is on a three-match winning streak and is 8-1 in his last 10 outings. Ball State's top doubles team is the pairing of Chris Adams/Tom Carney. The duo are 11-1 in dual matches this season and are on a seven-match winning streak.
Â
SCOUTING TOLEDO
The Rockets are 3-11 this season and coming off losses to Western Michigan on Friday and Buffalo on Sunday in the first weekend of MAC competition. Junior Vince Anzalone was UT's standout player against the Broncos. Anzalone found himself down in a tiebreak after his first set, but managed to rally back and win 7-6(4). The Willoughby Hills, Ohio, native continued to play hard in the second set and walked away with a 6-3 victory. Sophomore Danilo Vukotic stood tall for the Rockets on Sunday, sweeping his opponent 7-6, 6-4 in two sets.
