Toledo, Ohio - The University of Toledo's men's tennis team is set to travel to Florida during the early portion of spring break for three matches in the Sunshine State. The Rockets will host a 2:00 p.m. alumni match in Lake Nona on Saturday, March 3, followed by a 3:30 p.m match against Embry-Riddle in Daytona on Tuesday. The team closes out the trip with a 3:00 p.m. match against Radford on Wednesday back in Lake Nona.
Despite the warm temperatures and close proximity to the beach, UT isn't losing focus on what's around the corner — the start of Mid-American Conference play.
"Our Florida trip is about acclimating to playing outdoors, mentally and physically preparing for a great MAC run, and along the way, we'll have some good team-bonding experiences," said head coach Al Wermer.
The Rockets are coming off a mixed-result weekend that saw them beat Wayne State, 4-3, on Friday, Feb. 23. Two days later, Toledo fell, 7-0, to No. 17 Notre Dame.
LAST MEETINGS
UT last saw Embry-Riddle during the 2013-14 season when the Rockets were defeated, 6-1, in Florida. Freshman Stjepan Sisko earned Toledo's lone point, winning his match at No. 2 singles in two sets to mark his third consecutive singles victory.
Radford and Toledo have never played before. The Highlanders are coming off two shutout victories, a 9-0 victory over the Bluefield Rams on Tuesday, Feb. 20 for their second win in four games. Radford then swept Belmont Abbey four days later in a 7-0 stomping to earn their third win.
COMING UP
The Rockets' next match is against Western Michigan on Friday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. to open Mid-American Conference play. The match is set to be played on the University of Toledo's varsity tennis courts.
