Our second tournament of the fall was the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky on October 5-7. We left campus on Wednesday, October 3 in the afternoon after we all finished our classes and drove all the way from Toledo to Kentucky which took about five hours. With the help of a WiFi hotspot we are able to finish our homework and have a little entertainment on the way.
Â
Our practice round was at 9:40 & 9:50 a.m. which allowed us to sleep in a little that morning. In the practice round, we use each other to collaborate and gain as much information about the course as possible. Since we played here last year too, we added information to what we knew about the course already. We hit more shots around the greens than full swings and doing that helps us save energy for the next three rounds. After we finished the practice round, the University of Kentucky provided dinner at their football stadium, Kroger Field. It was a great experience to see the stadium and part of campus while we were there, because often the golf courses are away from the campus that we play. After dinner, we went back to the hotel and prepared for the first round of the tournament.
Â
The Bettie Lou Evans was an 18-18-18 tournament, meaning one round each day and tee times for the first two rounds. It was different from other tournaments which normally will go by shotgun. After each round we talk as a group and go over what went well and what we learned from the day. This helps prepare us for the next day and learn from each other.
After the first round we found an amazing Thai food place (surprise), where the owner came out and was able to make some of our favorite meals from home for us. Coach sampled a lot of the food too! J
Â
Pim had an amazing tournament and we were all there cheering her on as she finished her second round (65…-7 par)!! We are so proud of her and what she did this tournament of setting two school records with her second round 65 and total score of 208 (-8)! Sorry Coach Tiki…she broke your record…J.
Â
This event was special because during the final round all the players and coaches wore an Iowa State hat in remembrance of Celia Barquin Arozamena. This reminds us that golf isn't life, but that life is about much more than the game we get to play.
Â
We arrived back on campus around 8:00 pm. For this trip, we all got to know new people and played against a strong field. It was good to be back at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational again; the golf course was in great shape and also challenging. It was a good experience overall and of course a great time with the team.

Thank you for all your support and Go Rockets!
