Cleveland, Ohio— The University of Toledo women's tennis team took the doubles point but was not able to keep the momentum going in singles play in a 5-2 loss to Duquesne in a match played in Cleveland Saturday evening.
The Rockets picked up doubles victories from No. 2 doubles team junior Thalita Rodrigues and sophomore Mimi Kendall-Woseley (6-3), and No. 3 doubles pairing sophomore Dee Dee Leenabanchong and senior Colleen O'Brien (6-3). Junior Kokoro Chishaki took the lone singles point at No. 5 singles, winning 6-3, 7-6 (3).
"I'm really happy with how we started this match," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "Our doubles play was impressive and we continue to get a little bit better each time we go out to compete. We definitely battled hard with Duquesne as four of our matches went to three sets. We need to get better at the pressure points and we will with more match experience."
The Rockets return to the court tomorrow against host Cleveland State at 2:00 p.m.
