LOUISVIILE, Ky. - The Toledo baseball team was unable to pull the upset over No. 2 Louisville in a 11-1 loss at Jim Patterson Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Toledo (14-29) was led by freshman Malave Bettinger who recorded two of the Rockets six total hits and scored the lone UT run. Bettinger singled to lead off both the third and the fifth inning.
Louisville (37-6) proved its ranking by busting out 11 runs on 13 hits and receiving a 7.0-inning start by Mentor, Ohio native Kade McClure.
The Cardinals took the lead 3-0 with three runs in the bottom of the third inning off of Toledo's fifth-year senior starter Ross Achter. Achter left the game after 1.1 innings. Louisville doubled the deficit to 6-0 with three more in the bottom of the fourth.
Bettinger singled to lead off the fifth and senior catcher Corey Tipton followed with a single of his own. Freshman Antonio Bennett advanced the pair with a sacrifice bunt to set up a sacrifice fly by junior Brad Boss, making it 6-1.
Unfortunately, the Rockets' scoring was done for the day and the No. 2 Cards put up their third three-run inning of the game in the sixth. Louisville added single unearned runs in the seventh and the eighth to reach the final of 11-1.
Achter (3-4) takes the loss for the Rockets while McClure (5-1) claims the win for Louisville.Â
The two teams meet for the series finale tomorrow, April 30, at 1:00 p.m.
