Toledo Compete in Ball State Challenge Starting Friday

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's track and field team heads to Muncie, Ind. for the Ball State Challenge on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15.Â
The Rockets had a good showing in this meet a year ago with a pair of event wins and 10 other top five finishes. Kyesha Neal and Katie Dewey finished in the top two spots in the discus and Madeline Pacella won the high jump, clearing 1.74 meters. Pacella will look to defend her title in this season's meet.
In their last meet, the Rockets defeated I-75 rival Bowling Green in a dual meet for the first time since 2000. Petronela Simiuc (800m, 1,500m), Athena Welsh (3,000m), Yana Khabina (400m hurdles), Olivia Chinn (2,000m steeplechase), Pacella (high jump), Maddie Jarrett (pole vault), Ty'Shai Freeman (triple jump) and Anna Bellman (javelin) all earned meet wins last weekend.
UT has a number of athletes ranked in the top 10 in the Mid-American Conference this season, led by three place holders in the 10,000m run and the 3,000m steeplechase.
Dandadeua da Silva ranks as the seventh fastest 400m dash to lead the Rocket sprinters and Simiuc holds down the third fastest time in the 1,500m run.
Khabina and da Silva rank fifth and ninth, respectively, in the 400m hurdles with times of 1:01.38 and 1:02.35.
Pacella and Freeman are the top field athletes on the roster. Pacella is currently in third in the high jump and Freeman ranks fifth in the triple jump.
Katie Dewey leads the Rocket throwers and ranks eighth in both the shot put and the discus. Bellman ranks ninth in the javelin.
