Toledo to Open Spring in Florida at Ball State’s Sunshine Invitational

TOLEDO, OH — Toledo opens the spring portion of its 2016-17 women's golf campaign this weekend when it travels to Port St. Lucie, FL to compete in Ball State's Sunshine Invitational. The Rockets will be competing in the event on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 10-11 at the par-72, 6,074-yard St. Lucie Trail Golf Club.
The scoring format will consist of each team fielding five players, with the lowest four scores counting for each round. Thirty-six holes will be played on Friday, with the final 18 holes taking place on Saturday. Play will begin each day with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start and live scoring can be found at golfstatresults.com.
Toledo notched four Top Three showings in its first five tournaments last fall with runner-up finishes at Ball State's Cardinal Classic (Sept. 19-20), the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational (Oct. 23-25) and Mercer's Idle Hour Collegiate Championship (Oct. 31-Nov. 1) as well as a third-place showing at the Rocket Classic (Oct. 10-11). The Rockets posted a 300.3 team average in the fall which would rank second in school history for an entire season.
Sophomore Pinyada Kuvanun leads the Rockets with a 73.7 stroke average, just ahead of classmate Pimchanok Kawil's 74.5 scoring mark. Junior Napaphan Phongpaiboon is third on the team with a 75.9 mark followed by freshman Saranlak Tumfong at 76.3.
The Rockets will be competing against a 12-team field that includes Ball State, Drake, Eastern Kentucky, Illinois State, IUPUI, Keiser, Lamar, Lipscomb, McNeese State, Southern Illinois and Valparaiso. UT will head back to Port St. Lucie next weekend as well when it competes in the Central District Invitational hosted by Michigan State on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 20-21.
