Rockets Fall to Detroit Mercy, 4-3

DETROIT, MI – The Rockets battled hard but suffered a tough 4-3 loss to the Detroit Mercy Titans on Friday afternoon in their first match of the weekend. Toledo will head into tomorrow's match against Michigan State with a record of 3-3.

"This was a heartbreaking loss for us," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. " We battled back so hard after losing doubles but just fell a little short. Our one through three singles players played unbelievably tough; we dominated at the top of the lineup."

Junior Sidnay Huck and Freshman Dee Dee Leenabanchong were the only Rockets to claim a victory in the doubles competition. The Rocket duo recorded a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles.

Huck took her usual spot at No. 1 singles to claim a victory against the Titans' Anna Davydova, 6-4, 6-2. Colleen O'Brien and Mimi Kendall-Woseley also won their individual matches. O'Brien defeated her opponent Pauline Van Herk, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles before Kendall-Woseley downed Detroit's Marie Maitrot, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 3 spot.

Megan Miller forced her match into three sets after claiming a second-set victory at No. 5 singles.

UT will return to the courts Saturday morning to battle the Spartans at 10:00 a.m.
