TOLEDO, OH – Toledo came away with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Wright State at Shadow Valley on Saturday afternoon. The score was tied at three matches apiece until sophomore Claire Aleck stepped up at No. 6 singles to seal the win for the Rockets.
"I am so proud of the fire and passion we played with today," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "To scrap out a match like that after losing the doubles point is extremely impressive."
After losing the doubles point, the Rockets rallied to come back to win four of the six singles matches. Junior Sidnay Huck defeated WSU's Karoline Haller in three sets at No. 1 singles. Huck came back from a 0-3 deficit in the third set to win, 6-4, and tie the overall match tied at 3-3. At the same time, freshman Mimi Kendall-Woseley knocked down a straight-set victory over her opponent at the No. 3 spot in the form of a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
With the score tied at three, the last match on the day was between Aleck and Wright State's Tori Turner at No. 6 singles. Turner downed Aleck in the opening set 7-5, but Aleck battled back to win the next two sets, 6-4, 6-3, and clinch the victory for the Rockets.
UT will not hit the courts again until Friday, March 3 where it will face Butler at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
