YPSILANTI, MI - Toledo (9-3, 0-1 MAC) will look to return to its winning ways when it travels to Mid-American Conference West Division rival Eastern Michigan (5-8, 0-1 MAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 4. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Convocation Center and will be streamed live on ESPN3.
UT, which was ranked No. 20 in last week's collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, is coming off a 51-45 home setback against Ball St. in Saturday's MAC opener.
The Rockets were limited to a season-low 24.6 percent (16-of-65) from the floor, including 16.7 percent (4-of-24) from three-point range, and 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from the charity stripe to suffer their sixth-straight loss to the Cardinals.
Junior Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott paced the Midnight Blue & Gold with eight points, followed by senior Janice Monakana and junior Jada Woody with six each, marking the first time they had no players in double figures this year.Â
Toledo came into the league opener ranked second in the MAC in scoring offense (77.3 ppg) and three-point field-goal percentage (36.7 percent), as well as third in overall field-goal percentage (44.0 percent).Â
To make matters worse, Monakana suffered a left leg injury with 2:16 remaining in the third quarter and did not return. The 2015-16 honorable mention All-MAC honoree is listed as questionable for tonight's contest.
Despite a tough afternoon shooting the ball, UT stayed close due to a strong defensive effort. The Rockets forced 30 BSU turnovers and turned those miscues into 17 points. They also held the MAC's top overall shooting team to a mere 35.3 percent (18-of-51) from the field.Â
Toledo, which is 4-1 away from home, is fueled offensively by the trio of Bravo-Harriott, sophomore Mikaela Boyd, Monakana and freshman Mariella Santucci, who are averaging 13.2, 10.1, 9.9 and 9.2 ppg, respectively.
EMU enters tomorrow's MAC West Division match-up on the heels of an 85-73 road loss at Northern Illinois on Saturday. Phillis Webb paced three Eagles in double digits with a career-high 30 points and a contest-best 14 caroms to post her ninth collegiate double-double.
Eastern Michigan, which is 3-2 at home, features a balanced offense with three players averaging at least 12.0 points per game paced by Toledo native Sasha Dailey's 18.5 ppg and 2.54 spg, followed by Webb and Micah Robinson's 12.5 and 12.3 ppg, respectively.
Toledo and Eastern Michigan will square off for the first of two meetings this year and 79th time overall.
UT has dropped four of the last five match-ups against its division rival but still maintains a 46-32 advantage in the all-time series, including a 21-15 edge in away games.
A season ago, EMU swept the regular-season series, claiming a 59-41 home victory (Jan. 23) and a 58-46 road triumph (Feb. 24).
Following tomorrow's contest, the Rockets will host MAC East Division foe Miami (6-8, 0-1 MAC) on Saturday, Jan. 7. The opening tip versus the RedHawks is slated for Noon in Savage Arena and will be televised on the Buckeye Cable Sports Network (BCSN) and Time Warner Cable Sports Channel (TWCS) as part of the MAC's television package.Â
UT leads the all-time series against Miami, 37-25, winning the last 10 match-ups by an average of 11.8 ppg (69.2-57.4) since the 2009-10 campaign.
