Muncie, IN – After dropping the first set, Toledo came from behind to down MAC West Division co-leader Ball State, 3-1, in its first league road match of the season. With the victory, the Rockets improve to 9-6 on the season and 2-1 in the MAC, while the Cardinals drop to 6-11 (2-1 MAC).
"We had a great win tonight against a very good team" said head coach Greg Smith. "It's always a great feeling when we can lock in a MAC victory on the road. I'm very proud of this team for making the changes necessary to come from behind and get the win."
For the fourth-consecutive match, the Rockets' attack was propelled by junior OH Saige Thomas who tallied 16 kills. Junior MB Rachel Vidourek and sophomore OH Gracey Tuifua each followed with 10 terminations, and freshman MB Zoe Birnbrich and senior Mary O'Connor both added eight.
Vidourek notched a season-high seven rejections, while Birnbrich and Thomas each registered three.
Sophomore libero Maurissa Leonard led the back court with 19 digs and junior DS Lauren Bakaitis assisted with 16.
After a slow first set, the Rockets' team attack mark never fell below .200 and they shut down the BSU offense more and more as the match went on. Toledo never trailed in the final frame and held Ball State to its worst hitting mark of the match (.054).
UT will travel to Akron, OH on Saturday to battle the Zips at 5:00 p.m.
