TOLEDO, OH - Toledo (1-1-0) will travel to the "Blue Grass" state for a match-up with Louisville (1-0-1) on Sunday, Aug. 28th. The opening kick is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Lynn Stadium.
In their season opening match last week, the Rockets fell to a resilient Quinnipiac team, 2-1. Redshirt freshman Kelsey Kraft scored an equalizing goal in the 70th minute, but the Bobcats netted the contest winner in the 82nd minute to claim the season-opening win.
Two days later against Wagner, senior Kiersten Johnson scored a pair of goals to lead UT to an impressive 5-1 road victory. Kraft also found the back of the net in the triumph to record a goal in her first two collegiate contests.
"Kelsey had a great weekend," said Toledo head coach TJ Buchholz. "She has great speed and has a nose for the goal. She finds ways to score."
The Rockets tallied four markers in the second half to cap off an outstanding win.
Junior captain Isa Echeverri returns to the Toledo lineup after competing in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics with the Colombia National Team. Echeverri started 20 matches for the Midnight Blue and Gold last year and tied for eighth in the conference with four goals, en route to earning second-team All-MAC accolades.
Louisville, under 17th-year head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes, recorded an 8-8-2 record last season, highlighted by an overtime victory over then No. 1 North Carolina, 2-1. The Cardinals play host to UAB on Friday before welcoming the Rockets to town two days later.
"They're a great team," mentioned Buchholz. "They're very athletic and very good in the air. It's going to be a challenge for us, but our team knows we have to get after it and be ready to battle."
The Cardinals are led by junior forward Kaela Dickerman and senior goalkeeper Taylor Bucklin. Dickerman leads the Cardinals with two goals, both of which came in a 4-0 win over Indiana State. Bucklin has allowed just one blemish through two early season matches.
Following this weekend's contest, Toledo will host its first home match against Northern Kentucky on Friday, Sept. 2 at 4:00 p.m. at Scott Park.
