LOUISVILLE, KY - Toledo surrendered the first goal of the match 21 seconds after the opening whistle and never recovered in a 4-0 loss to Louisville on Sunday at Lynn Stadium. With the setback, the Rockets fall to 1-2-0 on the season.
"Louisville is an outstanding team," Toledo head coach TJ Buchholz said. "They played a great match today. A lot of credit goes to them and how strong their team played defensively."
The Cardinals (3-0-1) opened the scoring in the first minute of play when Brooklynn Rivers found Sarah Feola, who promptly put the ball into the back of the net for the eventual match winner. Later in the opening half, Alison Price broke free and delivered a goal in the 21st minute and Caroline Kimble added a goal just before the intermission to give the home team a 3-0 advantage at the break.
The Cardinals added a goal in the second stanza when Jill Vetere capped off the scoring in the 67th minute.
UT sophomore netminder Katie Wilson made a career-high six saves between the posts. Toledo's leading scorer redshirt freshman Kelsey Kraft led the visitors with three shot attempts.
Toledo was outshot 17-3 in the second half, leading to a 22-7 disparity during the duration of the match.
The Rockets return to action on Friday, Sept. 2 when they entertain Northern Kentucky in their home opener at 4:00 p.m. at Scott Park.
