Rockets Prepare for Three-Game Home Series vs. Ohio

TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo softball team will welcome Ohio to Scott Park this weekend on April 8-9 for a three-game series. The Rockets will face off against the Bobcats in a single contest on Friday at 3:00 p.m. before returning for Saturday's doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.

    Junior 2B Chandler Rice has tallied a team-high 18 RBI, five home runs, 54 total bases and a .563 slugging percentage. Rice has recorded 31 hits, six doubles and a triple.
    In the circle, senior Marla Gooding leads the Rockets with a 4.21 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 113 innings pitched. Gooding has made 24 appearances, hurling for 12 complete games and winning seven. Freshman RHP Heather Webb has tallied 45 strikeouts in 62.1 innings and collected her first win vs. Eastern Michigan (5.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO).

    Sophomore Taylor Saxton is leading the Bobcats' offense with an impressive .425 batting average after going 45-106 through their 35 games. Huey has recorded 21 runs, one double and five RBI. Junior Madison Claytor and sophomore Mikayla Cooper are also threats on OU's offense. Cooper has registered a .380 average with 28 hits, 19 runs, and team-highs 28 RBI, 68 total bases and eight home runs. Claytor is hitting .307 with 19 runs, five doubles, six homers and 26 RBI.
    Miami's starting pitcher, freshman Savannah Dorsey, has recorded a 1.76 ERA after 151.1 innings pitched. Dorsey has thrown 223 strikeouts, including 23 in Saturday's doubleheader, and six shutouts.

G1: Freshman SS Megan Choate recorded a season-high three hits and swiped one bag. Junior 3B Brittany George and sophomore 1B Samantha Showalter each went 2-for-4 with a run scored. George also belted her first home run of the season.

Senior RHP Marla Gooding (7-12) claimed the victory for the Rockets after pitching all seven innings. Gooding allowed three earned runs, walked one and struck out two.

G2: Rice was Toledo's top offensive threat in game two, going 3-for-3 with two home runs, three runs scored, four RBI and one stolen base. Junior Celeste Fidgewent 2-for-2 in the contest while also notching her third homer of the season.

Freshman RHP Heather Webb is ranked 14th in batters struck out (45) and 15th in innings pitched (62.1), and freshman RHP Danni Ryan is tied for 13th in games in relief (8).

OHIO BOBCATS BREAKDOWN
    Last weekend, Ohio completed a three-game sweep of Kent State, improving its record to 22-13, 4-4 MAC. TOLEDO VS. OHIO
    The Bobcats lead the all-time series with the Rockets, 39-34. Last season, Toledo ended a 12-game losing streak to Ohio with 4-3 victory on April 18. UT dropped the second game of the doubleheader, 3-2.Â
TOLEDO VS. EASTERN MICHIGAN RECAP (APRIL 5)
    Toledo won both games of its mid-week doubleheader at Eastern Michigan on Tuesday afternoon at Varsity Field. The Rockets recorded a 7-6 come-from-behind victory in game one, and then recorded nine runs and nine hits to take game two, 9-0, in five innings. UT improves to an overall record of 8-25 and 3-5 in the Mid-American Conference.Â

LOOKING AHEAD
    Toledo will welcome Eastern Michigan to the Glass City on April 13 to finish off its three-game series. The single contest will begin at 2:00 p.m. The Rockets will then travel to Mount Pleasant, MI to battle Central Michigan in three games on April 15-16.Â
