Muncie, IN – The Toledo men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Ball State in their final road match. The Rockets fall to 7-16 on the season and 0-6 in the conference.
Â
Toledo jumped out in front with a 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point. Junior Stjepan Sisko and sophomore Stephen Miller bested Andrew Stutz and Conner Andersen 7-6 (4) at first doubles. The freshmen duo of Vince Anzalone and Serjen Olmedo downed Matt Helm and Jan Jirus 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.
Â
Olmedo extended Toledo's lead after he defeated Namenja Guzina in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, at third singles.
Â
Ball State won the next three singles matches on courts two, five and six to take a 3-2 lead over UT.
Â
Anzalone tied the match 3-3 after he defeated Conner Anderson, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Â
The match came down to the top court. Stjepan Sisko took his familiar spot at first singles and won the first set 6-4. Sisko's opponent, Lucas Andresen, battled back with a 7-6 (3) victory in set two. The Cardinals came out on top after Anderson took the last set, 6-4, handing Sisko his first MAC loss of the season and snapping his 16-match winning streak.
Â
"This one stings but we have to be ready for tomorrow. Stjepan losing is also tough, it was his only MAC loss. But he is tough as nails and he'll recover quickly," said head coach Al Wermer.
Â
Toledo will finish its 2016 season tomorrow when it hosts Western Michigan in a 1:00 p.m. match at the UT Outdoor Tennis Courts.Â
