TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo women's track & field team continues its season at the Tom Wright Classic on Friday, Jan. 22 in the Perry Fieldhouse on the campus of Bowling Green State University.
The Rockets will compete against the host Bowling Green, as well as A-10 member Dayton.Â
This weekend, the Rockets will not run the complete squad. "We're going to sit the vast majority of our distance runners this weekend," head coach Linh Nguyen said. "We have a three weekend stretch coming up, and they've had their icebreaker and their training tests already."
While the distance runners will be staying back, the sprinters, jumpers and throwers will be in action this weekend. "We're looking for continued improvement from our sprinters and field events," Nguyen said. "A lot of throwers are working out techniques and kinks. For our sprinters, it's about getting reps in and getting used to multiple events in one day."
Last weekend, Toledo complied five top-three finishes during the meet. Senior Liz Welier finished third in the mile with a time of 4:52.87, which hit the Mid-American Conference automatic qualifying time.
Sophomore Stephanie Barlow put down a personal best 3000m time of 9:59.48, good for third in the meet. Jennifer Lichter also put down a personal best in the 3000m.
Junior Ty'Shai Freeman picked up two third place finishes in the high jump and triple jump. Freeman jumped 1.66m in the high jump, and 11.15m in the triple jump.
"Ty'Shai did very well in the triple jump and high jump," Nguyen said. "It was great to see solid performances her, as well as Stephanie and Jennifer who both put down PRs in 3000m."
UT will be back in action next Friday at the Spire Midwest Open on Jan. 29 in Geneva, OH.
