Karina James Breaks School Record in 5000m at Day One of the Meyo Invitational

Junior shaves more than six seconds off 15-year-old school record with a time of 15:57.97
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Junior Karina James bested the school record in the 5000m by more than six seconds on day one of the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
James tallied a final time of 15:57.97 in the 5000m event, breaking Ari Fisher's time of 16:04.56 set in 2011. Graduate student Olivia Gang followed behind in the 5000, recording a personal best time to win her section and take 11th overall, while Bella Early also tallied a personal best time and placed 18th.
Freshman Harper Brighty ran a personal record time of 1:35.93 in the 600m to record the third-best 600m time in program history. Bralynne Dunn led the Rockets in the 200m, crossing the finish line with a lifetime best time of 25.14. Sydney Stepanovich and Isabella Denny also ran career-best times in the 200m as Stepanovich took 11th overall with a time of 25.32.
In the 60m, Stepanovich led the way for UT, placing 12th overall with a personal best time of 7.79. Slagle also earned a lifetime best in the 60m while Denny tallied a season-best time in the event.
