Jeptoo Kiptanui won her first collegiate mile on Saturday
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Three Rockets broke program top-10 times in the final day of the Heartland Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind. on Saturday.
Dorcas Jeptoo Kiptantui led the Rockets, winning her first-ever collegiate mile event with a time of 4:41.50. The junior's time is a personal best and ranks eighth all-time in program history. Lianna Surtz and Alex Bauer also turned in top-five finishes in the mile. Surtz took fourth with a personal record time of 4:44.66 while Bauer earned fifth with a mark of 4:46.50.
In the 800m, Gabby Phelan recorded a final time of 2:11.78, a mark that ranks 10th all-time in program history. Phelan finished fourth overall in the event, followed by teammate Laura Acuña in fifth (2:12.05).
The Rockets had three of the top-five finishers in the 5000m, led by Melody Jebiwot who won the event with a personal best mark of 16:17.95. Jebiwot's final time ranks sixth all-time in school history in the event. Hannah Ielfield took second with a personal best time of 16:37.22 while Bella Earl took fourth-place with a mark of 15:05.06.
