TOLEDO, OH – Toledo (1-5-0) will head to Scott Park for its home opening weekend against Oakland (0-1-3) and Wright State (3-2-0). The Rockets will take on the Golden Grizzles on Friday, Sept. 11 at 5:00 p.m. and the Raiders on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1:00 p.m.
The Rockets will play on its home turf for the first time since opening the year with a six-game road swing, where they took on three nationally ranked opponents in Notre Dame, Kentucky and Pepperdine.Â
Â
UT's front line netted three markers in the season opener against Detroit, including two from sophomore Isa Echeverri, but has not scored since. However, the attack has improved in recent matches. Freshman Italia Biondi had a breakout game against Loyola Marymount, firing a season-high six shots. While none found the back of the net, her movement and skill are exactly what the Rockets need to get back on track.
"We've been working on our offense in practice as of late and we are creating more shots," Biondi said. "We're seeing a vast improvement in training this week."
Oakland does not have a win on the year, but its record includes a draw against Big Ten foe Michigan State. The Midnight Blue & Gold has previously taken on the Golden Grizzles eight times is seeking its first win in the series.
Wright State has won its last two matches, beating Dayton and Belmont. The Raiders will take on Butler today before coming to the Glass City. Toledo will look to even the series with its intrastate foe. UT holds a 2-3-0 all-time record against the Raiders and last saw them on Sept. 17, 2010 where it took home a 2-1 double-overtime victory.
UT heads back on the road next weekend for the end of the three game homestand. The Rockets will take on Northern Kentucky on Sept. 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the NKU Soccer Stadium for the first meeting between the two programs.
